Kinja'd!!!

... And splurged on some beer to get me in the brewing mood this weekend.

I got the two trader joes house beers brewed by Unibroue, a 32 bomber of Lagunitas Sucks, Left Coast's The Wedge (pure nostalgia for me as I used to go to the wedge all the time when I was younger), Eel River's Triple Exultation, Ninkasi's Radiant Ale, Shipyards Monkey Fist IPA, Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer, a four pack of cider and a bottle of The Knot Irish Whiskey to round it all out. I think I went a little crazy at the beer store today...

Let me know how that whiskey is, I've been looking to expand my taste.

I will, I have been trying to do the same. I'm not sure when I'll crack the bottle yet, I think I need to get a nice cigar to go with it so I can feel classy.

I've been a Lagunitas fan for a while now, I actually haven't had something from them that I don't like. But I haven't had everything they brew yet either. I'm quite partial to their lucky 13 red ale, it is super yummers.

It's sitting in the fridge cooling down right now I think that will get cracked tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it as I had little brown shugga on tap a few weeks ago. Mmmmmm beer.

Not a bad go to brew. I'm up in Chico so generally Sierra Nevada is my go to, mainly because it is nice and cheap in town and it is quite decent beer. You can't beat $3 pints at the bar for SN versus $3 for a bud light...

I'm in WA where Pyramid and Red Hook are the Starbucks of beer. It's EVERYWHERE! Everyone is doing a recipe of IPA and I'm just not digging it.

I'm going to go visit the home brew shop and buy me some ingredients to brew on Saturday. If they have some tasty bottles I may not be able to resist... Also I may end up going and getting some Pliny the Elder from the liquor store which seems like a good idea.

I must confess, I have a problem with drinking good beer.

Oooooo Pliny. I have friend who brought me a couple of bottles back when she went out to Cali. Good stuff. I need to find a really good Russian Imperial recipe. Something like North Coast Old Rasputin. I have a russian in secondary at the moment, been in there for about 6 weeks? I figure in another couple of months I will bottle it out, and see where it goes from there. I also want to find / try brewing a mead.

Hey, how was the tj's winter brew this year?

I haven't opened the tj stuff yet, it got a little unsettled on its way home so I'm letting the yeast settle right now.
I'm thinking I want to brew a DIPA over the weekend as the brew to drink time is relatively quick compared to a stout. But after I get the brew bottled I might be able to be patient enough to let a IRS ferment and age. I get a little impatient as I only have two 8 gal buckets right now and I'm not too keen on a two month fermentation and minimum one month bottle conditioning. But we will see. I forgot to get this months brew your own magazine, but they have some solid recipes. Where do you look for recipes?

Oh and I'm fortunate enough to live in a college town where the kids don't know what Pliny is so the liquor store has plenty. Back when I was in SoCal it was a mission to get your hands on even one bottle and the place I knew of that ever got it had a one bottle a day limit per customer. It's a good IPA but I'm not sold on it being the end all be all IPA. But then again I've only had it 3 times so far, I might be doing an IPA tasting day soon. That sounds delicious. You should see if you can find Blind Pig IPA that is mighty fine and brewed by the same people who brew Pliny.

Yeah, I have three glass bottles, so I can do it as long as I keep my timing together. Also, apparently, meads have a tremendous secondary time. Like a year in secondary! So like I said I want to try one... I am just not sure if I am ready to try one yet. I will have to look for blind pig.

I was going to mention that huge fermentation time with regards to meads, but I forgot. That is one reason I haven't tried brewing one, maybe I'll get a carboy I can dedicate to mead for a year or so but I'm not sure how long I'll be living in one place right now. I have a buddy that has mead he brewed about 3 years ago still hanging out in their fermenters. He gets all crazy and puts worm wood and other shit in his mead. I don't know if I could stand knowing I had a bunch of good stuff hanging out in a fermenter that long. I lasted about 5 years aging a 666 vertical epic from stone and it finally bugged me to see it so I drank it one evening and now I regret that because I only had one bottle and it was so damn delicious compared to the 555 or the 777.
